The conflict in The Jungle in Upton Sinclair's novel about the hardships of new immigrants and the disastrous working conditions they faced. In the beginning of the novel Upton introduces us to Jurgis, a Lithuanian immigrant, who has just married the love of his life, Ona. The major challenge they face is the necessity of money.
Jurgis and Ona don't have any money, having spent it all on their wedding causing Jurgis to get a job. Upon buying their house they believe they have enough only to find out they have been tricked and must pay interest. Ona must now get a job which in the end destroys not only her but the soft and delicate man that was Jurgis.
In the jungle, the couple Ona and jurgus are immagrents from lithuania that move to a depressing place in chicago know as packingtown. this time setting is in the early 1900's and theyy have move to america for the "America dream". In Packing town it is very filthy, dangerous, and hard place to live and almost impossible place to find a job. it is not a very good place to live or for a family to move to. it seems like everyone is dishonest and disrespectful. the men have no respect for the women or anyone around them. in the meat factory that one of the family members works at realizes that the meat factory is very d
After Jurgis got out of jail, he went to to his old tenement to see his wife and family. Upon his arrival, he found that his wife was giving birth to his son. After spending a lot of time and a lot of energy on obtaining and keeping a midwife, he took her back to the tenemant to help his wife give birth to his baby boy. After all this was over, Jurgis found that his wife Ona was dead but his son was not. Stricken by grief, Jurgis wandered around in a daze and went and got plastered. When he arrived home, he was convinced that he should go out and get a new job so that he could take care of his baby boy and keep him alive and warm.
Jurgis is one of the characters in the book the jungle. He is a very interesting character. He starts off with his wedding to Ona. Their family is poor and everyone has to get a job. Jurgis works at a beef and pork factory "the killing beds". He stepped into a trap and hurt his ankle so badly that he wasn't able to work and was released do to his medical situation.
The home and work place of Jurgis is one of the worst I have ever heard of or seen in my life. Having finished the book Ihave the benefit of having found out that the best of situations still had extreme consequences for non-attentiveness. When Jurgis got the job he was happiest with on page 221 he found that when a man was not paying attention or was trying to hurry his task, dire consequences were obtained.
So far the main conflict in "Ordeal by Hunger" is the journey to California and the hardships they have. The party decides to follow the directions of a man named Hasting who they read about and heard that he discovered a new trail. they start out with a main wagon train then they split from the main train to go to a fort where Hasting is supposed to be waiting. When they get there he had already left leading another train, so they followed his tracks finding out that the trail is very difficult. Then they find a note in a tree that says to send a messenger ahead up to his party, so they do and he tells them the trail is to difficult and tells them a vey difficult detour.
The primary conflict of the story is that Melba wants to go to Central High. She really wants to see what it looks like in side. She wants the same benifits as white people have. The govener of little rock dosent want intergation in the schools mostly at central High. On the very first day of school he sent toops to not let the 9 black students in. The school was crowed with a huge mob of whites, even ones that didnt live in Little Rock. Melba and her mom was chased by some to there car and the both almost got hurt. They couldnt call the police cause it would do no good one bit.
The primary conflict in "The Grapes of Wrath" is the loss of jobs in the East.
And at last the owner men came to the point. The tenant system won't work any more. One man on a tractor can take the place of twelve or fourteen families. Pay him a wage and take all the crop. We have to do it. We don't like to do it. but the monster's sick. Something's happened to the monster.
The main conflict in this story is ofcourse segregation. melba the main charachter gets treated very differntly just because of her skin color. She gets treated very unfairly. She couldnt use the same nice bathrooms as the white ladies or drink from the same water fountain. The colored people water fountains and restrooms were always labeled as colored and were very ugly. Also one time at a grocery store melaba and her family includeing her grandma india went to buy grocerys and the clerk charged them more than it shouldve been, but they just couldnt do nothing about it because they were black and the clerk was white. Melba didnt understand why they had to stay away form white people and treat them like they were better.
The primary conflict in Warroirs Don't Cry is that Melba Pattillo Beals wants to go to Central High School. She signed up to go to Central High School without telling her parents. Just to tell her parents was a conflict for Melba. She did not know how to tell them so she just never did. Then her parents friend foud out and they were all mad that she did not tell them.
Then when she got back from Ohio there were more conflicts.
The conflict in the book 'Warriors Don't Cry' is quite the obvious one. There is a group of 9 young courageous students called the Little Rock 9. The Little Rock 9 are the first of blacks to integrate Central High, a previously all white school. As you would assume people don't take to kind to change. Many of the white population are very angered for this integration. The Little Rock 9 and their kin become the base of multiple hate crimes and threats. They are scared to leave their house fearing they will be attacked by an angry white mob. They are faced with many obstacles, physical, mental, spiritual, and social. They question why so many people hate them for only wanting to go to school.
I believe that the main character in this book is Mack. Mack is a character that has no worries, and just lives life with ease amd just enjoys life. He has a group of friends that he hangs out with all day, and just chills and kicks it and drinks his "old tennis shoes". The only flaw that i have read about this character, is that he has no money and lived in the pipes in an old abondoned lot. He is friends with what seems to be everyone in the town. Even the owner of the store has let him and his frinds live in his other house that is abandoned. People always try to hang out with Mack and want to be able to hang out with someone who is fun and be free from all the worries in their lifes. To me, it sounds like Mack and his friends are living the "good life".
